Volkswagen has finally done what enthusiasts have been waiting for. The German automaker has brought the Tayron R-Line to India, and at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹46.99 lakh, it marks the brand’s most ambitious play in the premium SUV space yet.
Locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, the Tayron R-Line is essentially an elongated, three-row evolution of the Tiguan R-Line. But calling it just a stretched Tiguan would be doing it a disservice. This is Volkswagen’s new flagship SUV in India, and it comes loaded with 23 distinct features across design, technology, safety, and performance.
Built on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron measures 4,792 mm in length, 1,866 mm in width, and 1,665 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,789 mm. That wheelbase is significantly longer than the Tiguan’s, allowing Volkswagen to accommodate a proper third row. Under the bonnet sits the 2.0-litre TSI EA888 evo4 turbo-petrol engine, producing 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
But here is the thing. The Tayron R-Line is not just another three-row SUV. It is Volkswagen’s statement of intent. And for Bangalore’s roads, that statement needs protection.
The Tayron R-Line carries a distinct European flavor in its design language. It is classy yet sporty, subtle yet unmistakably Volkswagen. At the front, you get slim rounded-off headlamps with IQ Light HD Matrix LED technology, an illuminated VW logo, and a connected light bar. The aggressive front bumper with a massive air dam and aero cut-outs gives it a purposeful stance.
The side profile follows a subtle, estate-Ish theme with silver trim running above the window line and 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels. At the rear, the connected tail-lamp cluster with an illuminated Volkswagen logo, a roof spoiler, and an aggressive bumper complete the package.
The Tayron is available in seven exterior color options: Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, and Oryx White with a Mother-of-Pearl Effect.
And this is where the problem begins.
Bangalore is not kind to any car. But the Tayron faces a specific set of threats that most SUVs do not.
Threat 1: The Ground Clearance Compromise
Tayron’s ground clearance is a point of discussion. It sits lower than traditional full-size SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner. That lower stance means flying debris from the road hits your bumper and bonnet at a more direct angle. On Bangalore highways like NICE Road and the Outer Ring Road, where trucks fling gravel at speed, this is not a maybe. It is a when?
Threat 2: The 4.8-Metre Length Problem
At nearly 4.8 meters, the Tayron is a substantial vehicle. Parking in Indiranagar, Koramangala, or any of Bangalore’s tight multi-level lots means your front and rear bumpers are constantly at risk. Door dings from adjacent SUVs are inevitable. The longer panels mean more surface areas exposed to damage.
Threat 3: The Illuminated Logo Vulnerability
The illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear are a premium touch. But they are also precision-placed elements that require careful PPF trimming. Sloppy cuts leave exposed edges, and over time, dirt and moisture get trapped under the film.
Threat 4: The Family SUV Reality
The Tayron is a seven-seater. That means school runs, weekend getaways, and the inevitable “let’s take the big car” trips. More usage equals more exposure. Kids with backpacks brushing against the doors. Luggage scraping the rear bumper. The 345-litre boot takes a beating from strollers and grocery bags.
Here is what I have seen across Bangalore’s detailing studios:
They treat it like a Tiguan. The Tayron is longer, wider, and has completely different panel gaps. A computer-cut template designed for the five-seat Tiguan will not fit the Tayron perfectly. At Fortify, we use Tayron-specific computer-cut templates.
They ignore the illuminated logos. The illuminated VW logos front and rear require precision trimming. Generic installers cut corners here because it takes time and skill to wrap around lighting elements. We take that time.
They miss the third-row access points. The Tayron’s third row is accessed by tilting and sliding the second-row seats. Those mechanisms mean more moving parts near the paint. Our installation accounts for every fold, tilt, and slide point.
They don’t understand the R-Line badging. The R-Line specific exterior elements and badging require careful PPF applications around them, not sloppy cuts that leave exposed edges.
PPF stands for Paint Protection Film. It is a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film applied over your car’s painted panels. It is not waxed. It is not a coating. It is a physical barrier that absorbs impacts, so your original paint does not have to.
A stone chip at speed carries enough kinetic energy to crack the clear coat, penetrate the base coat, and expose the bare metal. Once the metal is exposed, rust sets in. The repair involves sanding, filling, priming, painting, and blending. The bill climbs into five figures. And the color match on an Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl or Ultraviolet Metallic Tayron? Good luck.
PPF absorbs that impact. The film deforms, the stone bounces off, and the paint underneath remains untouched. Over time, the film’s self-healing topcoat repairs minor scratches when exposed to heat, like sunlight or warm water.
Modern PPFs consist of three layers:
A PPF installed correctly can keep your Tayron’s showroom finish for 5 to 10 years.
At Fortify Car Care, we work exclusively with premium PPF from LLumar, Saint-Gobain, and BASF Rodium. All are available in gloss and matte variants.
A high-quality Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the only way to keep the Tayron’s showroom finish intact while absorbing the daily punishment of Bangalore driving.
LLumar PPF – manufactured in Germany – offers exceptional clarity and self-healing properties, making it ideal for the Tayron’s large, flat panels. Saint‑Gobain PPF brings over 360 years of material science expertise to the table, with a 90 GU gloss level that enhances the depth of the factory paint. BASF Rodium PPF combines German-engineered technology with advanced paint protection, creating a durable barrier against stone chips, scratches, road debris, and everyday wear. Designed for demanding driving conditions, it helps preserve the Tayron’s original paint while maintaining a premium finish and long-lasting clarity.
All three are exceptional. LLumar is the premium choice for ultimate clarity and self-healing. Saint-Gobain offers unmatched gloss and space-grade durability. BASF Rodium delivers premium paint protection backed by German engineering, advanced film technology, and dependable performance. It offers a strong balance of durability, finish quality, and long-term protection for vehicles driven in demanding conditions.
Both gloss and matte PPF offer the same level of protection. The difference is appearance and maintenance.
Gloss PPF for the Tayron
Gloss PPF is the classic, high-shine option that enhances the natural gloss of your factory paint.
For the Tayron specifically: The Tayron’s clean, sculpted lines are designed to catch light. Gloss PPF amplifies that effect. The Nightshade Blue Metallic and Grenadilla Black Metallic colors look spectacular with gloss film because the depth of the paint is magnified. Gloss is also easier to clean and self-heals more easily.
Best for: Tayron owners who want to keep the factory look while adding invisible protection.
Matte PPF for the Tayron
Matte PPF transforms glossy paint into a flat, satin-like finish.
For the Tayron specifically: The Tayron’s bold, imposing stance looks striking in matte. The illuminated grille and chrome accents pop beautifully against a matte surface. However, matte requires more maintenance with matte-specific cleaners.
Best for: Tayron owners who want to make a statement. The transformation is fully reversible. Remove the film and the original factory paint underneath is untouched.
At Fortify, we offer both gloss and matte finishes across all three brands.
We know Tayron is Volkswagen’s flagship. It is Volkswagen’s most expensive SUV in India to date. At 4,792 mm, it is 253 mm longer than the Tiguan R-Line. It has illuminated logos, IQ Light HD Matrix headlamps, and R-Line badging that demand precision trimming.
We understand the 2.0-litre TSI EA888 evo4 engine. We know the 4MOTION system sits underneath, but the paint on top is just as vulnerable. We have experience with Volkswagen’s MQB EVO platform vehicles.
We have installed PPF on VAG vehicles across Bangalore. We know the panel gaps, the soft clear coat, and the specific vulnerabilities of Volkswagen’s premium offerings.
We are authorized installers. Fortify Car Care is Bangalore’s most trusted premium auto detailing studio. We are the only ones offering LLumar, Saint-Gobain, and BASF Rodium paint protection film in the city.
We use premium materials. Our PPF comes from globally recognized brands: LLumar, Saint-Gobain, and BASF Rodium with self-healing, hydrophobic, gloss, and matte finish options.
We are Bangalore-based. We know your routes. We know the threats. We know the parking nightmares in Indiranagar and Koramangala. We know the gravel showers on NICE Road.
We do not treat your Tayron like a Tiguan. We treat it like the flagship it is.

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is a statement. It is Volkswagen’s return to the premium three-row SUV segment. It is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 224 km/h. It comes with 14 Level 2 ADAS features, nine airbags, a 360-degree camera, a 15-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, an augmented reality head-up display, a 700-watt 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated front seats with massage function, a panoramic sunroof, and three-zone climate control. It has also scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.
But it is also a ₹46.99 lakh (ex-showroom) investment, with on-road prices in Bangalore crossing ₹58 lakh. And Bangalore’s roads do not care about your investment.
Do not wait for the first stone chip on NICE Road. Do not wait for the first door ding in Indiranagar. Do not wait for the first bird dropping to etch into that Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl paint.

The ceramic coating is applicable on both brand-new and used cars since it adds an extra hydrophobic layer of protection, increasing your Audi’s resale value.
The benefits include improved gloss, UV protection, chemical resistance, and even the most hassle-free maintenance method. This will keep your Audi paint in great condition and protect its finish against environmental contaminants.
Properly put on ceramic coatings could last five years or more, nearly always involving some paint correction. For those who plan on keeping their car a bit longer, the extra cost of these services is very worth it.
